Tomorrow has already come in a city on the sea: Kotka
Kotka's image as a city is built around an exceptionally interesting geographical location. The Baltic, the handsome River Kymi flowing into it and the harbour are important elements in the picture. The Russian border and the huge market that lies on the other side of it are only a few tens of kilometres away, Helsinki just over an hour by car.
The scenic Kymi Valley and the island-dotted Gulf of Finland are redolent of a distinctive history. That goes for the city itself too, but it also pulsates to the rhythm of tomorrow's modern information society. Greenery and a feeling of space create a sense of contentment, which is crowned by a water park without equal in the whole Nordic region. Kotka is a place where the charm of being a traditional crossroads of cultures and the exciting dynamics of the future reinforce each other.
